Barcelona, Jan 14 (GCSports) Argentina’s star footballer Lionel Messi scored his 400th goal on Sunday in Spanish leaguue La Liga, for Barcelona in a 3-0 victory over Eibar at the Nou Camp.
The landmark goal came in the Argentine’s 435th league appearance. In the 53rd minute, the 31-year-old footballer scored his 17th goal of the season, taking Barca’s tally to 3-0 in the match.
Earlier, Urugway’s Luis Suarez scored two goals (19′, 59′).
Messi, captain of 2014 FIFA World Cup runners-up, could have scored a second goal but he shot straight at Eibar goalkeeper Asier Riesgo from the edge of the box.
The victory takes Barcelona five points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid.
The 31-year-old is the second player to score 400 goals across Europe’s top five leagues, following Cristiano Ronaldo, whose 409 league goals in 507 games have been scored in England, Spain and Italy.
The goal against Eibar means Messi has reached 400 goals, which is 63 games quicker than Portugal’s Ronaldo who reached the same milestone.
With the virtue of this achievements, Messi extended his lead as La Liga’s all-time leading record scorer with Juventus’ Ronaldo second having scored 311 goals in 292 games at Real Madrid.
