The prestigious Locarno Festival’s co-production lab Open Doors will focus on India in the next edition of the festival, declared Locarno festival’s artistic Olivier Pere and Head of the Locarno’s industry office Nadia Dresti.
“Everybody knows that India outpaces the world in film production, releasing around 1,300 films every year,” Pere said.
“We are eager to see the outcome of this collaboration,” said Head of the Open Doors section, Martina Malacrida, adding that three Indian film experts Sunil Doshi, Meenakshi Shedde and Uma da Cunha would be working on the Open Doors 2011 programme.
The Open Doors segment is supported by the Swiss foreign ministry’s agency for development and Co-operation (SDC) and its main objective is to assist directors and producers of the selected projects to find co-production partners, particularly in Europe.
“The final short-listed applicants (a dozen in all) will be invited to participate in the co-production lab which will take place during the 64th edition of the festival Del film Locarno held from 3rd to 13th August 2011,” the statement says.
