Lokayukta will not be established in the state at least till the next session of the state assembly as Chief Minister Digambar Kamat informed that the state government will try to introduce the Lokayukta Bill in the session of the Assembly. Kamat made this statement during ‘Question Hour’ on Wednesday while replying to Mapusa MLA Francis D’Souza who wanted to know the exact status of Lokayukta Bill.
The chief minister told the house that the Central government has raised fresh queries and is being examined by the government. Kamat stated that the central government has said that it would be appropriate to withdraw the proposed Bill as it suffers from legal infirmity.
The state assembly had approved the Bill on 25th January 2007 and sent to the Governor for his consent on 11th August 2007. It was then forwarded to the central government on 12th October 2007.
