LS adjourned over conduct of Congress MPs against Smriti Irani

New Delhi, Dec 6 (GCCurrentAffairs) The Lok Sabha was adjourned for an hour over the conduct of two Congress lawmakers against Union Minister Smriti Irani.

The issue figured in the post-lunch session.

BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi, who was on the Chair, asked Congress floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury to get two of his party colleagues T N Prathapan and Dean Kuriakose in the House and ask them to tender an apology.

As soon as the House re-assembled after a brief lunch break, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said the two Congress members be directed to attend the House proceedings and tender apology.

Condemning the episode, he said such acts on the part of Congress members were “uncalled for” and “most condemnable”.

Mr Chowdhury said he was not present in the House during the episode of the clash between Congress MPs and the Union Minister.

“I have to check and then only I can get back to you…,” he submitted.

However, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar and other BJP members including Sangeeta Deo said if necessary the proceedings should be adjourned and the erring Congress members be brought in the House.

Ms Deo, who was sitting just behind Ms Irani, said it was unbecoming of members that they threaten a woman minister and pull up sleeves and took threatening position against Ms Irani.

Former union minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, also belonging to the ruling party, insisted that the two Congress lawmakers from Kerala — Kuriakose (from Idukki) and Prathapan (from Thrissur) — should tender apology.

Ms Lekhi then adjourned the House for an hour and asked the Congress floor leader to ensure the presence of two of his colleagues in the House.

As mild argument prevailed for a while, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghawal told Mr Chowdhury that he could see the video where his party colleagues have been caught conducting in an unacceptable manner.
