Former Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro who is currently in charge of the North Eastern States for the Congress Party recommended granting of 250 acres of land at Keri to M/s Meditab Specialities Pvt. Ltd., to set up a Special Economic Zone, according to reports published in the local media in Goa.
In a note dated 13th September 2006 bearing reference No. Min/Indu&Edu/198, Luizinho is reported to have asked the Goa Industrial Development Corporation to hand over the land at Keri earmarked to set up Educational Park, to M/s Meditab. This land at Keri was initially acquired to set up the Thappar DuPont promoted Nylon 6,6, plant.
In the note, he reportedly conceded that the previous government had decided to allot that land to Goa Education Development Corporation to set up an education park. However, he said the land should now be given to M/s Meditab as SEZ was expected to bring “large dividends” to the state in terms of economic and industrial development, besides of course providing employment opportunities.
