The Sessions Court on Monday acquitted Mahanand Naik in yet another murder case. With this judgement, Mahanand Naik who was charge sheeted in 16 murder cases stands acquitted of four of them.
The Sessions Court held that there was lack of evidence to prove that Mahanand Naik had killed Shakuntala Khavtankar from Mayem. The prosecution’s case was that Mahanand had taken the girl to the hillock in Cuncolim and strangulated her there in the year 2006.
Mahanand Naik though acquitted in four murder cases so far has been convicted in a rape case following a complaint by his wife’s friend that he raped her for three years.
