Pune: Expressing deep shock over the sudden demise of Dr Bhau Lokhande, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said, Dr Lokhande was the live history of Marathwada and Vidharba region.
In condolences message, he said the leaders of Ambedkar movement, first Dr Ambedkar Chair of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) Dr Bhau Lokhande who passed away yesterday had played a vital role for uplifting the Dalit community.
Dr Lokhande died yesterday due to cardiac arrest. He was 78. He was also known for his in-depth study in Pali language. He was noted as a litterateur who pioneered Republican Students Federation and contributed immensely in Buddha and Dalit literature, he added.
He remained Reader at Pali Prakrut of Nagpur University for several years.
The home minister called Dr Lokhande the one who had a deep study in social, cultural movements in Maharashtra. Expressed grief over the sad demise of this great thinker. In his condolence message Deshmukh further says, Dr Lokhande has contributed a lot to Ambedkari thought, Budha literature. He was active in literature and cultural movements of Maharashtra.
“We lost a thinker having an in-depth study in social, and cultural activities. I pay my respects to Dr Lokhande”, he added.
