Kolkata: A major fire broke out at a heritage multi-storied building, housing the head office of Punjab National Bank at Strand Road in the city where the fire fighting personnel were engaged to douse the flames, in which no casualty was reported so far, official sources said on Wednesday.
They said the fire was first noticed around 8 am on the 3rd floor where the bank has its canteen and on being informed the fire fighting vehicles reached quickly and brought the flames under control
when the report came in.
No casualty has been reported so far.
As many as 10 firefighting vehicles were deployed to douse the flames at the building which is also a heritage site of the city’s central part.
On March 8, a fire at the Eastern Railway office, some 500 mts from the PNB, killed 9 people including a senior railway official, four firefighting personnel and a RPF among others.
