Ms. Banerjee also added that the Trinamool Congress has been supporting the Farmers’ protest from the beginning. She also added that they have passed a resolution in Assembly against the agriculture laws. When the Chairperson of Trinamool Congress was asked about the role in National politics, she replied saying, Modi should be removed from power, that’s all. The TMC supremo also took a jibe at Central Government stating that since last year farmers are protesting, but the government has arranged no talks with farmers since January. She further questioned the Central Government for forcefully imposing the farm laws and said that the laws should be repealed.
The general secretary of Bhartiya Kisan Union, Yudhvir Singh told to Press Trust of India, “We want to congratulate Mamata Banerjee for her electoral victory and to elicit her support for the move to give farmers a fair MSP for their crops.” He also added that surplus production and lack of specified MSP are the reason farmers often suffer from low prices leading to massive losses and eventually leading to unfortunate suicide of farmers in many parts of the country. Yudhvir Singh also stressed the need to impose MSP for vegetables, fruits and, milk products in West Bengal.
As Ms. Banerjee assured Trinamool Congress’ support to agitators saying that she will support the protest, Yudhvir Singh and Rakesh Tikait of Bhartiya Kisan Union thanked her for her assurance. The Twitter handle of Trinamool Congress tweeted: “From the very beginning, we have fully supported the farmers’ movement & our MPs have also joined them several times in their protest against the draconian Farm Laws. We’ve also passed a resolution rejecting these laws. – Mamata Banerjee”.

Earlier on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, before the meeting, Tikait told that BKU will urge the TMC supremo to write a letter to Union Government to repeal the farm laws and if they have written the letter then he will urge them to send a reminder, as the farm laws are bringing loss to farmers. He also added that Union Government should pass a bill on MSP for benefit of farmers.
According to Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait, the West Bengal Government should conduct a monthly meeting with farmers. West Bengal Chief Minister has already been speaking against the farm laws and lending her support to the protest to an extent that she didn’t condemn the violence that took place on 26 January. Many Trinamool MPs have been to Delhi borders since November last year. Also, as the Covid–19 situations is improving, the agitators are planning to intensify the protest since the COVID situation is improving, the farmer leaders are working to escalate the protest. The agitators are protesting for more than almost six months now against the farm laws. Despite numerous rounds of talks between the Union Government and the Famer leaders, the deadlock is intact.
