Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Manohar Parrikar took the oath as the new Chief Minister of Goa in the presence of the Governor of Goa K Narayanan.
This is Parrikar’s third stint as Chief Minister of Goa but it has come sitting in the Opposition for the last seven years. However, this time the Parrikar led team of candidates won the majority in the Goa assembly election serving a humiliating defeat to the previous Congress-NCP led government who managed to win only nine seats.
Many expect that Goa under the leadership of Parrikar will usher an era of economic development and social upliftment for the people of Goa. Most importantly the new government is expected to take a hard stance against corruption – an issue for which the people of Goa withdraw their mandate from the Congress and handed it over to the BJP.
