It was a three in one occasion at Margao on Sunday afternoon when quite a number of villagers from Raia gathered at the Margao Municipal Hall where Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco was the chief guest.
A new organization – Barebhatt Social and Cultural Association – was officially launched at the function, journalist and prolific Konkani writer in Roman and Devnagari script Marcos Gonsalves’ new book was released and a social worker from Raia village Romaldo Gonsalves was felicitated.
Aleixo Lourenco welcomed the new organization and said NGOs should play a constructive role while even criticizing the government or elected representatives for their failures. While Romaldo Gonsalves is the founder President of the new organization, Marcos Gonsalves is its General Secretary.
Marcos’ new book Tornim Xim was also released. The book contains 28 essays of myriad topics ranging from youth, social, family and even philosophy which have been published in various Konkani publications including Sunaprant. The articles published in devnagiri script have been transliterated in Roman script and the publication is financed by Dalgado Konkani Akademi under its Pikavoll scheme.
Social worker from Raia who is also a panch of the village Romaldo Gonsalves was also felicitated by bestowing upon him the Gonsalves Sparsh Award for the year 2010 in recognition of his selfless efforts in ensuring that the various government schemes reach to the real deserving people in the village.
