Three residents of Fatorda have petitioned the Goa Bench of Bombay High Court to restrain the Director of Municipal Administration from going ahead with the elections to Margao Municipal Council alleging that the rolls have been manipulated.
The trio – Laurel Abranches, Cryodon Madeira and Succoro D’Souza have alleged that Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Vijai Sardessai of being responsible for the manipulation.
They have accused the Directorate of Municipal Administration of vitiating the election process by deliberately announcing the schedule late to enable certain politicians.
But more seriously, the trio have argued that the DMA has not followed the laid down procedures and norms while reserving seats for women, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Communities. They pointed out that wards having a significant population of these communities should be reserved for them, which they said has not been done in Margao.
Besides, they also pointed out that some wards have not been reserved for the last three elections thereby giving the impression that they are ‘reserved’ for certain candidates.
