Margao Kabrastan Issue In Court

The vexatious kabrastan issue pending in Margao for the last more than a decade finally landed in the courts seeking for an out of court settlement for the same.
Two persons Roselle Maria Figueiredo Solomon and Sheikh Bashir Ahmed in a petition filed before the Bombay High Court at Goa have argued that not providing a burial ground for the muslim community was unconstitutional.
The duo have sought an out of court settlement urging the court to pass an order directing the government to provide the land for the community by enacting a legislation to provide burial grounds for different communities.
They argued that although the government had resolved to provide a burial ground to the muslim community in Margao, neither has the government provided the land for the last 12 years, not given any satisfactory reason for its failure.
