The launch of Marine Commando Force on Saturday once again proved the fact that Goa Police personnel are either badly trained or physically unfit for the rigors their job involves.
The 10-member Marine Commando Force literally struggled to cross the River Mandovi an exercise planned to display the ability of this new force claimed to be the most elite wing of Goa Police. In fact some of the members had to be rescued by the patrol boats as they were struggling against the current to cross the river.
Unfazed with the development, Home Minister Ravi Naik said many of the members did not even know to swim when the force was created eight months back, but training has enabled them to cross the Mandovi, he said while revealing that the Force will be given further training at Indian Navy’s IN S Mandovi Academy at Verem.
The olive green and brown uniform attired Marine Commando Force that is christened Sheshnag has been provided with sophisticated weapon AK-47, bullet proof vessels built by M/s Goa Shipyard Ltd and will be attached to the Coastal Police wing. It is touted to be the sea borne version of Goa’s Quick Response Team.
