Panaji: Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has partially cleared repatriation of over 400 Indian seafarers, several of them Goan residents, working for Italian cruise company ‘Costa Cruises’.
In a memorandum issued on Saturday, Home Ministry’s Under Secretary (Immigration section),
Pratap Singh Rawat, has said,” MHA has no objection to carrying out immigration functions in respect of 414 Indian nationals coming to India (Dabolim Airport) from Italy through three special chartered B-737 aircrafts by M/s Costa Cruise company, tentatively on May 20, subject to production of no objection certificate/permission from competent authority in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and DGCA.”
“The airline operator shall also strictly adhere to the guidelines regarding Covid-19 issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of External Affairs and DGCA,” the memorandum said.
Meanwhile, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has welcomed the development.In a tweet, he said,” I thank the Ministry of Home Affairs and @MEAIndi for facilitating special Chartered Flight carrying 414 Goan seafarers from Italy to land at Dabolim airport in Goa. #GoaFightsCOVID19 #IndiaFightsCOVID19.”
