Police succeeded in nabbing notorious goon Michael Fernandes after he had escaped from police custody about two months ago. Michael along with his partner in crime, Deepak Kerkar was arrested on Monday in the forest of Khola in Canacona taluka.
Michael who escaped from police custody in a daring move by jumping out from the police jeep onto a motorcycle that was following it. He jumped from the police jeep when he was being transferred to the prison after being taken to a hospital for check up on 22nd February.
Michael had hit the headlines recently for reportedly confessing to having received a contract to kill Home Minister Ravi Naik’s son Roy. However, till date police have not registered any case in connection with the contract.
He was apparently hiding in a hut like structure in the forest and three police personnel including Police Inspector Vishwesh Karpe were injured in the operation to arrest him.
Soon after his escape, Michael was back looting people not only in Goa but also in neighbouring Maharashtra and Karnataka. He has 29 cases pending against him.
The latest case was robbing Manisha Patil at gunpoint in Kankavli of Maharashtra. Police also recovered a gun from him along with six live rounds.
Having escaped thrice from police, the police are now planning to seek the Court’s permission to handcuff Michael whenever he is being taken anywhere.
