Even as raids on Mickey’s establishments continued for the second day, the Nationalist Congress Party sought to distance itself from their MLA as its spokesperson Trajan D’Mello said that party image cannot be tarnished by an individual.
Replying to a question at a media briefing, he said Mickey was free to leave the party if he so desires.
When asked to spell out the Party’s stand vis-a-vis the MLA, Trajan preferred to wait till the investigations are over and pointed out that Mickey himself has welcomed the investigation.
“He (Mickey) is not doing anything, things are happening to him,” he quipped while replying to a question.
However, what is interesting is that the United Goans Democratic Party has strongly lashed out at the government asking it to stop the ‘witch hunt’ launched against the Benaulim MLA.
UGDP Secretary General Anacleto Viegas said Mickey is the embodiment of benevolence for the people of South Goa and though not claiming that he is a saint, Anacleto argued that there is a little of bad in the best of persons and some good in the worst.
He asserted that the recent raids were initiated by the Congress Party which is heading the coalition government both in the State and the Centre, only because Mickey’s popularity is growing in leaps and bounds and he is emerging as a serious threat to many Congress veterans in the State.
It may be recalled that Mickey was earlier a member of the UGDP which he quit to join the BJP from where he went to the Congress and ultimately returned to the NCP of which he was a member earlier.
Anacleto had earlier, when Mickey was undergoing trying times following the death of his ‘friend’ Nadia Torrado, said that the UGDP would not mind giving Mickey a ticket at the next elections.
Meanwhile, CBI continued searching the documents at Mickey’s office at Betalbatim for the second day on Thursday and seized four laptops and four mobile phones even as the staff brought to their notice the Sessions Court order not to dispose off the mobiles as they were required for the investigations in Nadia’s death case.
Mickey continued to be calm and composed and co-operating with the sleuths as he reiterated that the investigations will absolve him of all charges.
