Former Tourism Minister Micky Pacheco was on Tuesday convicted by the Judicial Magistrate First Class at Margao for assaulting a government servant and sentenced to one year simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5,000/-
The sentence was pronounced by the Judicial Magistrate First Class on Tuesday afternoon. However, the order is suspended for 30 days to enable Micky to appeal to the higher court against the sentence.
It may be recalled that Micky was alleged to have assaulted a Junior Engineer from the Electricity Department Kapil Natekar on 16th July 2006 where the government servant was summoned by him to discuss problems of power supply in his constituency.
Although Micky had denied having assaulted the engineer, the electricity department engineers had held a day long protest then against the unbecoming behavior of Micky who was then a minister.
