Srinagar: A militant was killed by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Thursday, a police spokesperson said.
He said on a tip off about the presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint CASO at village Meeg, Pampore, in Pulwama district.
However, militants hiding there opened fire when security forces were sealing the exit points and moving towards a particular area, he further said adding security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter.
A militant was killed and the operation was going on when the reports last came in, he stated.
Meanwhile, additional security forces have been deployed in the adjoining areas to prevent any law and order problem and internet mobile service in the area has been suspended to prevent rumours.
About 20 militants of different outfits, particularly Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) were killed by security forces during various encounters in south Kashmir this month.
