Mining Cos Get Pollution Board Notices

The Goa State Pollution Control Board has served notices upon 35 mining companies for operating without the required permission from Forest Department after the companies had applied for renewal of the consent to operate.
GSPCB Chairman Simon D’Souza disclosed that the mining companies had failed to produce the mandatory permission from the Forest Department in order to continue operations.
Illegal mining in the State has been a hot topic for discussion and even dominated the proceedings of the Assembly for the last two sessions.
In all there are 104 mining leases registered with the GSPCB, but Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar’s charge is that there are more than that operating illegally and ravaging the countryside by denuding the forests.
