Mining to be stopped in Goa for next six months

GoaChronicle.com has reliably learnt that the state government is to put a halt to all mining activities in the state for the next six months.

The government has issued a notification to this effect and all mining companies to submit details for verification.

This information was told to GoaChronicle.com from highly placed sources in mining companies who are bracing themselves against this decision that is expected to be taken by the government as an outcome to the Shah Commission report on ‘illegal mining’ in Goa

The Shah Commission report has estimated that illegal mining in Goa is about Rs 34,935 crore and some of the big mining companies have been implicated for violating norms set by the Centre and state. The report also clearly indicted the Chief Ministers of Goa from 2000 onwards for the illegal mining scam.
