The Mines and Geology Department has now directed all mining firms to register the trucks used by them for transporting ore with the department by 10th May giving the registration number of the truck, the name of its owner along with address, telephone number and the license number of the driver of the vehicle.
The department has threatened to invoke provisions of the Central Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation (MMDR) Act to suspend permits of trucks found to be transporting ore without being registered with it.
Besides, all truck drivers will have to possess a health card issued by the designated government health officer which will have to be countersigned by the RTO officer.
The department has also reiterated the order about timing for transporting ore which would be from 8 am to 4 pm with a lunch break of one and a half hour while no transportation of ore will be permitted on Sundays and other public holidays.
It may be recalled that the villagers of Caurem had recently stopped mining trucks from plying through their village because they were violating these very conditions laid down by the government.
