Union Minister for Science, Technology and Earth Sciences Ashwini Kumar on Sunday said that non-governmental organizations, civil rights groups and other activists should be taken into consideration with reference to Jaitapur nuclear plant which is strongly being opposed by the locals.
Kumar said that the government will make attempts all levels to engage all civil society groups, NGOs and people who have raised concerns about the nuclear plant, so that their issues are addressed.
Speaking to media persons, Kumar said that Centre as well as Maharashtra government will do their best to address the issues raised by the protestors.
Pointing out that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had reviewed additional security measures put in place for the plant, he said that the centre is going ahead with Jaitapur plant with all additional safeguards necessary.
“All the possible activities should be carried out to ensure that people’s lives are not risked while we perceive our nuclear programme,” he said.
