Minority President Looms Large on AICC Goa Plan

Though the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Subash Shirodkar has not yet been officially asked to step-down, the decision to replace him with a leader from the minority (Catholic community) is a decision that the All India Congress Committee think-tank has firmed up on.

What is not confirmed or finalised as yet, is whether the current Working President Francisco Sardinha will be elevated to the post of President and be the force to rebuild the Congress party in the state after the Goa Elections 2012 debacle.

AICC senior leaders are also considering other prominent minority community leaders such as Mauvin Godinho and Alex Sequeira.

Former GPCC president Luizinho Faleiro is seen as the first choice; however whether he will be able to taken out of his current responsibility in the North-East is a decision left up to the AICC President Sonia Gandhi.

The step it appears is being taken to woo back the minority who chose to vote against the Congress party due to rampant corruption based issues of its ministers.
