Mizoram : Multiple election rallies set to address by PM Modi, Amit Shah and Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi/Aizawl, Nov 19 (GCCurrentAffairs) Electioneering is at its peak in the northeastern state of Mizoram where the Congress party is facing a strong anti-incumbency mood after being in power for last 10 years.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit the state on Tuesday and address election rallies in remote Champhai township and also in state capital Aizawl.

According to sources, BJP chief Amit Shah is likely to address three election rallies – all in border hubs such as Lawngtlai, Champhai and Vairengte.

Vairengte is a town in the Kolasib district about 130 KM from state capital Aizawl and bordering Assam. “Mr Shah’s visit is also on November 20, Tuesday,” sources said.

Lawngtlai district shares international borders with Bangladesh on the west and Myanmar on the south while Champhai is one of the main business corridors for India and Myanmar in the region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to BJP sources in the state, will address two poll rallies

in Lunglei and in Aizawl either on November 22 or 23 (Thursday or Friday).

The elections to the 40-member state assembly will take place on November 28 along with Madhya Pradesh.

The counting of votes will take place on December 11.

Mizoram has a tradition of changing hands in the citadel of power every 10 years. The incumbent Congress Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla is in power since 2008. Earlier, he ruled as the Chief Minister from 1988 and was voted out of office in 1998.

The regional party MNF leader Zoramthanga was in the coveted office between 1998 and 2008.
