MLA Damu Bags Best Lyricist Award in Mangalore

Member of Legislative Assembly representing Fatorda constituency Damodar alias Damu Naik won the Best Lyricist award at the Global Konkani Music Awards held at Mangalore on Sunday as part of the ongoing Global Goans Cultural Convention.
Damu won the award for the lyrics of the song titled Nangar ghalun from the Konkani film Zagor which was also produced by him. Others nominated in this category were Arthur Pereira (Taram) and John Aguiar (Pavsant Bhijya).
In the singing category Rony D’Cunha was adjudged the best male singer for his rendition of Bharat Tum Mahan while Ulfa Khwaja bagged the prize for best female singer for her song Paavsa Disaani. The others nominated for the best female singer were Nephie Rod for Rangaylyare and Babita Pinto for Tum mhojea mogacho. In the male category the other two nominees were Sameer Karpe for Sapana Majim and Dr. Vijay Kumar Pai Raiker for Chondrima.

Chote Rahimat Khan and Amul Mainkar going under the name ‘Sacrifice Group’ which was nominated for two songs won the award for Best Konkani Music Composer  while the third nominee in this category was Sidhanath Buyao for Chondrima.
The devotional album Krist Amcho Rai brought the best Konkani Music Arranger for Cajetan Dias who beat the Sacrifice Group for their album L’Amour and Vanil Viegas for the album Masti.
However Vanil Viegas won the award for the Best Konkani Music Album for Masti beating  Sacrifice Group for that was nominated for L’Amour and Sidhanath Buyao for his album Valley of Colorz.
