A meeting of all legislators including ministers supporting the demand of government giving grants to English medium primary schools, is scheduled to be held on Monday. Parents from Margao constituency are scheduled to hold a candle light procession in the evening over the same issue.
PWD Minister Churchill Alemao who has been quite vocal in demanding that government provide grants to English medium schools called on Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Sunday after he returned from the Gulf, but what transpired at the meeting is now known.
Churchill has also called for a meeting of all legislators supporting the demand on Monday.
However, the newly constituted Forum for Children’s Rights to Education (FORCE) was not too enthused about this meeting stating that mere meetings will serve no purpose.
“If the ministers and legislators are serious, they should call for a special cabinet meeting on the issue and then we shall know what is the government’s stand and individual minister’s stand,” said FORCE Secretary Savio Lopes.
Meanwhile, FORCE has called for a candle light procession on Monday evening which will start from Lohia Maidan at 8 pm and then move to the Chief Minister’s residence at Malbhat. Parents from Margao constituency have been requested to join this procession.
