Chief Officer of Margao Municpal Council, Prasanna Acharya on Friday afternoon directed the officials to take stern action against Market Inspector Mohan Arlekar posted at the Gandhi Market. “He should be transferred immediate but better would be to suspend him,” he said.
The action was taken following a complaint from former councilor Rajendra Azgaonkar who is the leader of the Gandhi Market Vendors Association that the market inspector was not taking action against hawkers sitting on the road side selling vegetables and fruits.
“Due to the hawkers sitting on the roads leading to the market, the vendors in the market cannot do any business,” he said.
Taking cognizance of the complaint, the Chief Officer ordered immediate action against the market inspector.
However, he refused to meet the vegetable vendors gathered outside his cabin and sternly told Rajendara Arlekar to also put his house in order.
“Is everything in the Gandhi Market legal?” he asked while directing the officials to restart the drive against illegal constructions and encroachments in the market.
Later speaking to Goa Chronicle.com he said it was high time the market in Margao were put in place as there is total lawlessness there.
