Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has sought the help of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) to seal the sewage discharge from housing colonies that is contaminating the Saipem lake of neighbouring Navelim village.
Wednesday afternoon MMC Chief Officer Prasanna Acharya along with Municipal Engineer Vivek Prasekar and other officials inspected the area and found themselves helpless in carrying out the orders to seal the discharge.
Immediately thereafter, Acharya dashed off a letter to GSPCB asking it to depute officials to seal the discharge.
While asserting that the civic body was aware of the overflowing septic tanks in various parts of the city, Acharya said they were working to get the same connected to the sewerage system which is being carried out at a rapid pace.
Incidentally, the work of laying the sewerage pipes in Sirvodem and Calcondem areas was completed long back but the same has not yet become functional and housing societies from these area are found to be guilty of discharging their sewerage in storm water drains that empty in the Saipem lake.
