Beginning March 1, the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) will finally begin hotel garbage collection in the city.
Speaking to GoaChronicle.com, MMC chief officer Prasanna Acharya said that he has already held discussions with the Margao hotel owners association over the issue and they have assured the municipality of their cooperation.
The MMC will begin the exercise of collecting hotel waste from the units located within its jurisdiction for a month on a trial basis before regularizing the service, Acharya said. “This is to ensure that all pitfalls in the system are identified and adequately addressed so that the exercise runs smoothly thereafter,” Acharya told TOI.
A group of sanitary workers will work on a special late evening shift from 7pm to 11pm for the purpose.
All other modalities like payment structure and classification of hotels to decide over the quantum of charges to be levied on them, will be decided in consultation with the hotel owners association within the month-long trial period, Acharya said.
