Thane: A leader of Raj Thackeray’s MNS from Amberanth was allegedly brutally killed by unidentified people in the township of the district.
An offence under section 302 of Indian Penal Code has been registered with the Shivaji Nagar police station at Ambernath against unknown assailants, police said and informed further probe into the crime was underway.
Police have detained four suspects who attacked Rakesh Patil, the Vice-President of Ambernath town unit of MNS, on Wednesday evening.
Patil had gone to Palegaon where construction work was going on and at that time, four people arrived on the scene and attacked him with sharp weapons.
A badly injured Patil was rushed to a nearby hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead.
Though the motive behind the killing is still not known, it is suspected to be the result of a political rivalry or some other issues, sources added.
