Modi, Shah in Assam

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are in Assam today for separate programmes.

While Shah reached Guwahati last night on a three-day visit, Modi arrived at Jorhat airport in eastern part of the state this morning.

The Prime minister will participate in a programme at Jerenga Pathar in Sivsagar during which land pattas will be distributed to over 1 lakh indigenous people, a major poll promise of the BJP-led state government.

He is scheduled to return from Jorhat later in the afternoon. Shah, who arrived in Guwahati last night, will attend the plenary session of the North East Council at Shillong this morning.

In the afternoon, he will launch the Ayushman Bharat Central Armed Police Forces programme and hand over the beneficiary cards to the personnel at Group Centre, CRPF, near Guwahati.

The Union Home minister will attend the first anniversary celebration of signing of BTR Accord at Kokrajhar tomorrow and a party rally at Nalbari before returning.

The state goes to the polls in April-May.
