The Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar in his media briefing today announced that primary schools with Konkani and Marathi (or any other regional language) will continue to receive government grants and necessary support to impart quality education to students which has been lacking, failing which parents have been opting for schools with English medium.
For schools which have already shifted to English medium for them the government will continue to provide them with the necessary government grants. However, new schools with intent to keep English as its MoI will not be able to avail of government grants. This also applies to the Diocesan Schools that have already shifted to English medium.
The decision of the government is aimed at promoting Konkani and Marathi at primary level, as in secondary English continues to be the MoI.
