MoI Implementation To Be Delayed

Even though the Education Department received around 50,000 forms filled by parents expressing their choice for medium of instruction (MoI) on Thursday the set deadline, implementation is going to be delayed.
The delay will be due to the fact that the Education Department reacting to Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) threat has now decided to send the forms in Konkani and Marathi to the schools.
Earlier all the forms asking the parents to give their choice were printed in English and BBSM had objected to this. The department will now print the forms in the regional languages.
However, the work of sorting out the forms received by the department will commence from Friday and it is no mean a task given the fact that each school’s response has to be sorted out separately.
Besides, the department will have to physically verify if the concerned school has the necessary infrastructure to start a new division wherever required if some parents have opted for a different medium from that chosen by the majority.
The issue of text books which are supplied free of cost to the students under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan programme also exists as printing of new text books is expected to take at least two months.
