While the discussion on the Mopa Airport was averted from going-out of hand in the question hour by the Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, it appears that in the days ahead the clash on this issue is going to take centre-stage.
While Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai who is also the convenor of the claimed non-political forum ‘Goemkar’ opened the Mopa topic questioning whether the government has done a feasibility and viability study on the functioning of two airports in a small state like Goa, he also threw light on the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) report that said dual airport system is the second best option.
Joining the debate was Congress Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginald Lourenco who also questioned the Chief Minister’s urgency in moving ahead with the Mopa Airport without explaining to the people of the state how Mopa will benefit the state.
However, contradicting fellow Congress colleague, Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho stated that some political leaders who have vested interests are misleading the people of Goa and trying put spokes into the economic growth and development of the state. He further requested the Speaker to have a special discussion on the Dabolim-Mopa issue.
