Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu on Saturday said that Mopa Airport being develped in North Goa will not only bring passengers but prosperity to the state as well.
Speaking to reporters after visiting site of Mopa Airport and taking a stock of ongoing work, he assured that Mopa Airport would be completed in stipulated time.
“This airport will be responsible for growth of the state in various sectors as this project will generate lot of employment for people of Goa.”
Stating that locals would get jobs on priority, Prabhu stressed upon the need to initiate skill development programs for the local youth in the aviation sector.
He also explored idea of handling air cargo at a larger scale to generate revenue for the state and suggested setting up an entertainment park and business hub for southern area to give boost for commerce sector.
Prabhu was accompanied by Minister of State for AYUSH(IC) Shripad Naik, Minister for Tourism Manohar Azgaonkar, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Vinay Tendulkar, Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma IAS, MLA of Mandrem Dayanand Sopte and Director GMR Goa International Airport Limited K Narayan Rao.
In his address, Mr Shripad Naik said the Mopa Airport would prove to be a milestone in Goa’s financial as well as infrastructural growth.
Manohar Azgaonkar said the airport would help in overall development of locals and generate employment. He thanked the locals for giving their land for the airport project.
