New Delhi, Feb 15 (GCCurrentAffairs) After the launch of eagerly-awaited Vande Bharat Express by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday morning, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal announced on-board the train that 100 T-18 will hit the Indian Railways’ tracks soon.

Interacting with reporters while the semi-high speed train was running at the speed of 130 km/hr, Mr Goyal said, ‘More such trains are scheduled for future. As of now, total 100 such trains are planned for production, out of which tenders for 30 trains have been invited.’’

The tracks need an upgradation on this route(New Delhi-Varanasi), soon after which speed of 160 km/hr-180 km/hr could be reached easily, he added.

Initially code-named as Train18, Vande Bharat Express, will start its commercial run from February 17.

‘’The basic fare of its AC chair car will be 1.4 times of the basic fare of AC chair car of Shatabdi train,’’ Member Traffic Railway Board Girish Pillai told the reporters travelling on-board the ‘Shatabdi-killer’.

For the executive class of the Vande Bharat Express, a passenger will have to spend 1.3 times of the basic fare of the executive class of Shatabdi trains.

A journey in India’s first self-propelled train from the production shops of Integral Coach Factory, from New Delhi to Varanasi in Executive class will cost Rs 3,310 (inclusive of catering charge and GST), while the same journey in Chair car will cost Rs 1,760 (inclusive of catering charge and GST), Railways announced earlier this week.

While if one is travelling from Varanasi to New Delhi Station, he has to spare Rs 3,260 for Executive Class and Rs 1,700 for Chair Car.

Similarly, New Delhi to Kanpur Central will cost Rs 2,105 for Executive Class and Rs 1,090 for Chair Car; while New Delhi to Allahabad journey to one person will cost Rs 2,750 for Executive Class and Rs Rs 1395 in Chair Car.

Other charges like reservation fee, superfast surcharge, catering charge and Goods and Services Tax as applicable shall be levied separately.

The train is scheduled to run between New Delhi-Varanasi, with stoppages at Kanpur and Allahabad.

It will operate five days a week except Monday and Thursday.

The swanky train features an aerodynamic nose design on both the ends with air-conditioned chair-car formation. Being developed in a record time of about 18 months, as against the industry demand of about three to four years, the train is designed in such a way to save diesel by dispensing with the power cars and about 30 per cent electricity saving because of advanced regenerative braking system.
