Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that more than 80 per cent of the state population has received the first dose of Covid vaccine.
Speaking to media, he said,”Eighty per cent of the state population has been given the first dose of Covid vaccine. There are around one lakh people who are yet to take the first dose. I am appealing them to come forward and take it.”
The Chief Minister said he would write to the Centre to reduce gap of vaccines for teachers to ensure that the were safe when schools were open.
He said the government was prepared for completing the second dose of the vaccination by September 30, 2021.
Dr Sawant expressed hope that physical classes in schools for class X and XII could begin before August 15, 2021.
He said the state government was progressing well with its target of administering at least 1st dose of vaccines to all the people above 18 years of age by July 31.
He said the education department had been asked to ascertain when physical classes could be started in the state.
