With Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) reportedly approaching High Court to allow iron ore export 15 days after court has stopped it, Aam Adami Party (AAP) in Goa on Friday alleged that MPT was fronting for the mining companies.
In a statement here, AAP Goa General Secretary Pradeep Padgaonkar said, “It is very clear that the Supreme Court has quashed and thus annulled all the leases from the date of issue, and that the ownership of iron ore cargo is that of the Goa Government and the former leaseholders cannot be allowed to usurp the revenue from such ore which has to come to Goa Government.”
He said that If the exporters misinterpreted the Supreme Court order that asked them to stop mining activity, which included loading, they must take responsibility for it.
‘MPT can claim damages and recover. It is criminal to keep flouting Apex Court order for 15 days.
Exporters must pay damages to MPT and ship management and they must not be allowed to be loaded,’ he said.
