Mumbai Police books a case against Navy veteran attacked by Shiv Sena mob

Mumbai: After a shameful and despicable attack on a 62-year old Navy veteran by a dozen of Shiv Sena goons, Mumbai Police has booked a case against the former defense personnel for a Whatsapp forward of a cartoon but has not initiated action against the mob that kicked, punched and beaten the senior citizen.

The 62-year-old retired Navy veteran – Madan Sharma, is currently under treatment at Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali. The officer has allegedly filed a complaint against the Sena workers at Kandivali police station.

Speaking to Republic TV, the daughter of the navy veteran stated that Mumbai Police had come to their home to arrest her father. She pleaded for a President’s rule in the state and demanded that all those who attacked her father were arrested, jailed, and punished.

Madan Sharma- a Kandivali resident, told Republic TV that he was attacked by goons led by a Shiv Sena ‘Shakha’ head, who allegedly barged into Sharma’s compound.

Calling the ex-Navy officer to come out of his house, the Sena unit chief allegedly attacked him. The Whatsapp forward was a satirical cartoon featuring Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and his allies – Sharad Pawar and Sonia Gandhi.

This attack on the veteran is a continuation of the fascism on display in Maharashtra. Two-days a Republic Team led by Anuj Kumar was taken into illegal custody and denied legal aide for following up on a lead in an investigation in the Sushant Singh Rajput and Disha Salian murder that took them to a farmhouse in Karjat. The Republic Team has been in illegal custody for over 48-hours.
