Chief Minister Digambar Kamat followed the route adopted by his ministerial colleagues the Alemao brothers in resorting to the rotation system of top posts of the Margao Municipal Council.
While he nominated Sushila Naik to be the chairperson of the Margao Municipal Council, the vice-chairperson will be Gonzaco Rebello from Vijai Sardessai’s camp. However, the duo will hold office for 18 months only i.e. till the next assembly elections following which the posts will be rotated between the other councillors with a term on one year only.
Digambar Kamat said the present arrangement was made to ensure provide a people friendly administration at the council and also to take forward the government’s agenda for Margao.
It may be recalled that Vijai Sardessai had also made it explicitly clear that the council should work diligently so that the people of Margao and Fatorda would vote for the Congress candidates at the Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, garbage management appears to be the top priority as both Digambar Kamat and Sushila Naik said that this issue needs to be tackled first.
