Kochi: Kerala Higher Education Minister K T Jaleel has reiterated that he did not accept any gift, money or any favours from the UAE consulate in the distribution of Ramzan kits or Quran.
Mr Jaleel said “My hands are clean” and the distribution of Qurans in the state needs to be viewed as a cultural and religious transaction. The Enforcement Directorate also sought my personal asset details which were duly submitted. There is nothing more to it, the minister said at the side-lines of a meeting.
The opposition parties had mounted pressure for the resignation of Jaleel after the ED interrogation. Several youth organisations too took to streets raising the demand.
The summons and interrogation of ED were not publicised by the agency which kept it under wraps.
While maintaining that he being questioned has not lowered the goodwill of the ruling LDF government, Mr Jaleel said neither CPI-M nor Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had sought any explanation from him
