Mumbai: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Thursday said that it has seized nearly 89 kg of prohibited contraband in a multiple pan-India operations in the recent past, while Mumbai has emerged as their major destination in the country.
An official statement issued by the NCB said that in a separate operation in Jammu, 56 kg Hashish was seized, following the arrest of its main receiver in Mumbai.
”Metro cities of India serve as the prime destination for various contrabands. NCB in synchronised operations at Mumbai and its connections with the rest of India have made various seizures and arrests, which are having ramifications on the narcotics supply chain,” the agency said.
”On the basis of specific information, on October 12, the NCB team had seized one kg cocaine and two kg PCP (Phencyclidine) from one M Ahmed from Vasai, Palghar. During interrogation, he revealed that the contraband has been provided by one SK Saurabh for further selling,” the agency said.
On the basis of manual intelligence and technical surveillance, the NCB team arrested SK Saurabh on October 13 from Vasai, Palghar and sustained interrogation of Saurabh resulted in further recovery of 29.300 kg MDA from his shop on October 14. He also revealed that the drugs belong to A Khanivadekar and R Khanivadekar.
According to NCB officials, Khanivadekar has been apprehended and is during his interrogation, he revealed that his brother R Khanivadekar was accused in a Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) case of 483 kgs of Ephidrine and is out on bail.
”Before the DRI raid, both had shifted the contrabands to the godown of SK Saurabh and he had taken out the above recovered contraband from that lot while shifting,” the officials added.
In another operation in Jammu on September 15 this year, the DRI sleuths seized about 56.4 kg charas concealed in 55 packets at Ban Toll Plaza, Nagrota area of the city and apprehended M Gupta, A Gambir and Sonia, all residents of Delhi, it said, adding that Rs 1,91,000 and an XUV 500 SUV were also confiscated. The Charas was to be sent to Mumbai.
Later in a combined operation between Jammu and operations units, the main suspect of 56 kg Charas case Faruk Chandbadhsah Shaikh was apprehended from Mumbai-Pune Highway, along with one of his associates Kurban Ali, resident of Rajasthan, the Narcotics Control Bureau said.
During interrogation, they revealed that they were also involved in one case of Mumbai, in which six kg Charas was seized from their other associates, the agency added.
In the third operation, the NCB apprehended one Pradeep Rajaram Sahni with 70 gm Mephedrone in Mumbai’s Andheri West.
”Pradeep had disclosed that he used to supply the substance to various persons in the Andheri and Juhu Area. He was employed as peon/runner with Balaji Telefilms Pvt Ltd through a third party,” the Bureau officials said, adding that his further distribution network was being investigated.
The NCB, in another raid, arrested one Nigerian national – Uka Emeka alias Godwin with four gm cocaine. The seized drug originated from a South American country and the drug trafficker was suspected to be delivering the contraband in Mumbai’s Pali Hill, Bandra, Andheri, Juhu and Khar areas, the officials said.
