The crisis in the state Nationalist Congress Party unit remained unresolved President Jose Philip is firm on relinquishing the post and the party high command is not inclined to hand it over to Micky Pacheco.
Both the legislators had marathon meetings with NCP General Secretary and Goa in charge Prakash Bhinsale on Wednesday, but a solution eluded them.
Jose Philip is now scheduled to leave for Delhi to meet Party President Sharad Pawar and hand over his resignation as President to him.
However, there have been rumours that Jose Philip is all set to quit the NCP and join the Congress Party on condition that his wife Neny is made the Chairperson of the Mormugao Municipal Council.
Congress leaders PWD Minister Churchill Alemao, Urban Development Minister Joaquim Alemao and Deputy Speaker Mauvin Godinho have been trying to get the Congress councillors from Mormugao to support Neny’s candidature without much luck.
Power Minister Aleixo Sequeira is reported to have joined the troika to offer Jose Philip the carrot of chairpersonship to his wife provided he joins the Congress and the latter is learnt to be considering the offer very seriously.
On the other hand Micky Pacheco who has been aspiring to take over control of the NCP in Goa since he organized the party convention at Betalbatim two years ago was very clearly told that the high command is not inclined towards it given the fact that he is embroiled in quite a few controversies including the death of his ‘friend’ Nadia Torrado and the alleged immigration and money laundering scams.
Making the most of the opportunity, Micky told media persons that he is not willing to take over as president of the party in Goa. “There are many senior party leaders who can do that,” he said.
Micky who is being wooed by the United Goans Democratic Party to become its president also left his options open by claiming that he is with the NCP and in the same breath pointing out that since he is the leader of masses, he can make any party.
