The Nationalist Congress Party in Goa is gunning for Goa Pradesh Youth Congress President Sankalp Amonkar’s scalp over alleged misappropriation of funds collected to provide relief to the victims of the flashflood in Canacona last year.
Addressing media persons on Sunday, NCP Goa State President Jose Philip D’Souza said the party will even file a police complaint over this matter, if necessary. He said Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Vice President M K Shaikh’s disclosure that the Youth Congress had not deposited any money with it reveals the fraud.
Jose Philip asserted that there should be accountability and transparency in money matters and wondered why the Congress Party did not initiate disciplinary action against the Youth Congress President.
The NCP president and Youth Congress President have locked horns over the ensuing municipal polls scheduled to be held next month and have been engaged in battle of words for the last fortnight.
Meanwhile, NCP MLA Micky Pacheco who is being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation said the Central government had sanctioned the probe because intelligence reports had indicated that all was not going to be well for the alliance at the next assembly elections due in 2012.
He suggested that due to his growing clout in Salcete, the Congress had targeted him and reiterated that he was innocent.
