NCP leader Jose arrested for Vasco Bandh

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former minister Jose Philip DSouza has been arrested by the Vasco police for orchestrating the Vasco Bandh. In an effort to clampdown on the growing activism against the failure of the government and its police force to nab the culprit behind the rape of the seven year old at the DV School run by the Mormugao Port Trust, the Home Ministry had enforced Section 149 to arrest demonstrators who force local businesses to shut shop during the Bandh.

A few days ago Fatorda social activist and former Margao councillor Camillo Baretto was also arrested for planning to hold a similar Bandh in the South Goa constituency.
Several Congress and NCP leaders have condemned the dictatorial actions of the Chief Minister saying it is a curbing of freedom to express their anguish and disappointment in the failure of Goa Police.
