Neeraj Chopra leads Indian contingent at Asian Games 2018


Jakarta, Aug 18 (UNI) India’s flag-bearer at the 18th Asian Games Opening Ceremony was led by 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Neeraj Chopra at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) main stadium here on Saturday.

Neeraj who was leading with the Indian flag along with other Indian athletes received a huge applaud from the crowd.

When Indian contingent passed former Indian Olympic Association secretary general Randhir Singh applauded the athletes.

Indian women contingent were seen in blazers and trousers at the opening ceremony. The contingent also saw one of the oldest Indian women athlete from India 79-year-old Rita Choksi who will be participating in the Bridge event which has been introduced for the first time at the Asian Games.

The Indian sports ministry has cleared an 804-member Indian contingent, including 572 athletes, for the Asian Games.

The sporting extravaganza will see around 10,000 athletes from 45 countries compete in 58 games.
