National Student’s Union of India (NSUI), Goa, President Ahraz Mulla on Wednesday claimed that a photograph of former Prime Minster Jawaharlal Nehru has been dropped and replaced by Vinayak Savarkar in Class X Social Science books.
Speaking to reporters in the city, Mulla said it was very sad that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had removed the photo of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru from the text book and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s photo had been included in Class X Social Science books.
“Tomorrow, they will remove the photo of Mahatma Gandhi and ask what has Congress done in 60 years.. They have to ensure and make sure they cannot change history, which our ancestors have given us and the fight which the Congress has carried out for Independence,” he said.
The book titled ‘India and the Contemporary World II – Democratic Politics, is a text book of History and Political Science. It is part of Class X syllabus in the state
“In 1904, one of the prominent revolutionaries, who had the experience of revolutionary activity in India, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (popularly known as) (Swatantraveer Savarkar) founded Abhinav Bharat to guide the revolutionaries,” the book which has also a photograph of Savarkar said.
Earlier, the book contained photograph of the first prime minister of the country, Maulana Azad and Mahatma Gandhi.
