NGO alleges Govt favoring Hindus for ‘Laadli Laxmi’ Scheme

Lokancho Adhar – a Goa based NGO – alleged that the government keep in mind its saffron nature of goverance has done a lopsided selection of beneficiaries under its Laadli Laxmi scheme, with the first batch of 592 beneficiaries up to October 1, 2012 which included 484 Hindus, 99 Catholics and 9 Muslims.

Trajano D’Mello, president, Lokancho Adhar, stated that he has received certain information under RTI, which reveals that 10 MLAs – six being part of the government, while four officially backing the government – have been totally non-functional and have done nothing to provide benefit of the scheme to the Catholic population in their respective constituencies. “Most of these MLAs are Catholics themselves,” he further added.

He further blamed the 10 MLAs from Aldona, Calangute, Mapusa, Cortalim, Vasco, Navelim, Nuvem, Velim, Sanvordem and Curchorem, saying that they were traitors and had sacrificed members of the Catholic community entitled to be the beneficiary of the scheme, on the altar of self-seeking benefits.
