New Delhi: In continued investigation in Kerala Gold smuggling case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two more persons on Monday, the officials said here on Tuesday.
The arrested Sharafudeen, 38, is a resident of Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district while another one is Shafeeq, 31, is a resident of Palakkad in Kerala, have been arrested after their roles in the conspiracy and pursuant smuggling of gold through diplomatic baggage addressed to the UAE Consulate at Thiruvananthapuram surfaced in investigation.
Both were produced before the Ernakulam NIA Special Court on Tuesday and have been remanded to four days NIA custody for interrogation.
During custodial interrogation of accused Ramees KT who was arrested earlier, it was revealed that he was aided and assisted by co-conspirators Sharafudeen and Shafeeq in collecting the smuggled gold from arrested accused Sandeep Nair at Thiruvananthapuram and further distributing the contraband among other co-conspirators.
So far, NIA has arrested twelve persons in the case and further investigation in the case has been continued, the probe agency said.
